Vreau sa fiu liber, ca sa pot iubi cu adevarat... aceasta ne spune John in mica sa capodopera lirica, "I Want To Break Free". A te elibera de sentimentele negative, a te elibera de singuratate, a te elibera de conventii ("I want to break free from your lies"), pentru a fi tu insuti si a trai fericit.

Iubirea adevarata este un act de libertate ("I've fallen in love for the first time and this time I know it's for real"), singurul lucru care poate elibera omul de captivitatea singuratatii ("I can't get used to living without you by my side, I don't want to live alone"). Linia melodica este linistita si delicata, construita pe un ritm repetitiv si placut. Videoclipul are si el povestea lui, fiind interzisa difuzarea lui pe MTV in numele unei asa-zise "decente", intrucat cei patru erau imbracati in femei. Cu toate acestea, videoclipul este foarte nostim- Freddie este extraordinar de simpatic, cu cercei roz, imensi, si dand cu aspiratorul prin casa, Roger are doua codite blonde absolut superbe si fluturasi in par, John pare o doamna respectabila, conservatoare si acrita care-si bea cafeaua, iar Brian este de milioane, cu bigudiuri si papuci cu iepurasi!
