Daca These Are The Days Of Our Lives se refera la trecut, The Show Must Go On vizeaza viitorul, lansand un mesaj de speranta si supravietuire. Melodia atinge apogeul tristetii lirice a acestui album, transmitand o senzatie de presimtire amara a sfarsitului. Versurile incep cu o intrebare existentiala ("does anybody know what are we living for?"), la care cantecul nu poate gasi raspuns, si continua cu dorinta de a cauta o metoda de a "continua spectacolul" ("what are we looking for? Another hero"). Dar ce este "spectacolul"? Viata insasi poate fi asimilata unei asemenea imagini, dar ea, de la un punct, nu poate ccontinua decat in eternitate. Mesajul piesei poate avea, insa, o dubla valoare: de consolare si de indemn din partea lui Freddie pentru ceilalti trei membri, care trebuie sa-si faca datoria, sa continue spectacolul in care, pana atunci, jucasera toti patru. Sau poate fi un legamant al celor trei in fata vocalistului ca vor duce mai departe stindardul formatiei, in ciuda durerii: "inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking, but my smile still stays on". In orice caz, Brian, Roger si John si-au tinut promisiunea facuta prin acest cantec ("The Show Must Go On"), Queen fiind astazi una dintre cele mai iubite formatii si avand cele mai bine vandute albume in Anglia.

Melodia trezeste senzatia de tristete, de presimtire a sfarsitului, dar si o umbra de speranta. Iar vocea lui Freddie, dulce si nuantata de nostalgie, este cutremuratoare... Cat despre videoclip, acesta pare a fi o rememorare a momentelor de "show" exceptional din trecut (secvente din videoclipurile unor piese precum Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free), dar si o continuare a acestora (scene filmate ulterior, in care cei patru sunt imbracati ca in videoclipurile mai sus mentionate). Pe langa acestea, secvente cu Freddie dansand, dar si din concerte si alte montaje dragute: mai multi Briani (!) cantand la chitara, Roger, si nu numai, strambandu-se la camera. Finalul se constituie intr-un gest de solidaritate al celor partu, luandu-si la revedere impreuna de la public...
